I got back on Saturday night from a trip to Florida to visit with my mother and my posse. It felt like I was returning home from home. As much as I love finally being in SF, I miss my friends from Ft. Lauderdale and being so close to my mother... not to mention the weather, which was absolutely incredible.
When I arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on Saturday evening, Tricia and Keith were still at her mother's house, about an hour north, doing a late Christmas. So, I headed to Kathy and Eddie's house for a bit. We chilled out and had some wine on the deck by the boats. Tricia and Keith arrived about 11:00 and we continued chatting until about 2:00 in the morning. We headed back to Tricia and Keith's, where Tricia and I continued our visit for another couple hours. She was telling me all about the drama at her (my former) Walgreen's pharmacy, where one of the technicians stole approximately $75,000 (street value much more) worth of narcotics. What a nightmare.
Sunday started out at a birthday party for my friends Chris and LeAnn's oldest son, Spencer, who was turning four. While I was there, I got to see Ed and Kelly and their three-month-old daughter, Dylan, whom they could hardly get away from me. She loves her uncle Joshua already. :)
After the party, Tricia, Keith, and I headed back over to Eddie and Kathy's. Kathy and I took a trip out on the kayaks and I got to see their cute little neighbor, Chris, who calls me "professor". (Ever had a chubby in a kayak? It's a bit difficult to adjust.) When we got back, Tricia took Kathy's place and I went for a second spin on the kayaks. By the time we got back, my arms felt like two lead weights. But it was much fun.
I drove over to my mother's on Monday, and spent the next few days there. We did a late Christmas and I was able to get a lot of things done for her around the house. We talked a bit about what happened between me and Doug, since I'd never really talked with her about why we'd split up. I had to spend about half the day Wednesday working from Starbucks.
I headed back to Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday evening. Of course, I had to stop at both outlet malls along the way, resulting in the need for two more bags on the return trip to SF. [NTS: The first step is admitting that you have an addiction.] Of course, Tricia and I stayed up talking until the wee hours.
Friday was my day to run around picking up gifts for various people. I also spent a little time working from Java Boyz. Later that evening, I was watching TV while waiting for Tricia and Keith to get home from work, and who do I happen to catch on Jeopardy! but
Stephen (dakoopst). He did an awesome job. Of course, things like this would not be surprising if I could just find a way to get back in the habit of reading my LJ friends' postings regularly. I really need to do that.
Meanwhile, back in Ft. Lauderdale, Friday night was the big blow-out party for me. Everyone came over to Tricia and Keith's and partied until about 3:00. It was so great seeing all my old friends again.
Saturday morning, Tricia and Keith got up early to pack for a cruise they and Chris and LeAnn were leaving on later that day. I got up and packed to go home. I drove them all to Port Everglades and said my good-byes. On my way to the airport, I stopped by Kathy and Eddie's and Ed and Kelly's to say good-bye to them. It was sad. But, I'll see them again soon, I'm sure.
