Kids Update

So, here we are in October, end of school holidays.

Tomorrow we begin what we hope (hope, hope) will be the last week of remote learning for the year. We were all very pleased when we got the news that Mr8 could also start back onsite from week 2.
Preparing for the week, I've got Mr8 sorted, but can't log on to see Ms5's work. Apparently the problem is being worked on and we should be able to access again in half an hour or so.

We measured the kids yesterday. Mr8 has grown 3cm since mid-May, to 129cm. Ms5 has grown another 2cm to 120cm.
We've taken them out to playgrounds most days during this last week. Mr8 would rather stay home, but also doesn't want to miss out on anything so if he realises I'm taking Ms5 he'll tag along and seems to have fun.

More running around and less screen time has definitely improved his mood and attitude toward others.
In the last couple of days he has begun riding his bike again, taking it out on solo expeditions that have been gradually extended. Now he can take himself to two of the nearby playgrounds, and I'm trying not to nag too much about watching out for traffic. Independence is a good thing.

Now it is Ms5's turn to be extra tired and emotional. Fortunately I am currently in calm mood and managing to give most of the extra patience and cuddles required. She will probably be much happier once school resumes. She has her first class Webex meeting tomorrow morning, that usually cheers her up.

They both desperately want to go to a hairdresser. Mr8 is starting to look a bit like a dandelion, but (justifiably) doesn't trust me to do a haircut. Ms5 will let me do her fringe, but I'm putting it off because I usually make a hack job of it. I would also like a haircut - it's at the annoying length where I can't yet tie it back, but it feels in the way.

Not a lot else to report. We are surviving spending a lot of time together, they're doing ok with their schoolwork, and I am really hoping we will be able to go on a planned camping trip in November. We could all use some fresh air and a change of scenery.
