Oscar night - movies

Andrew and I toyed with the idea of hosting an Oscar party, but life's been a little busy so we never got it organized. It was nice having it as a quiet event, and we made it a little more special with some Indian takeaway from Surabhi, I was pleased that Slumdog Millionaire did so well - it was one of my personal favorites from last year. I was pleasantly surprised by Push too when I saw it with jsciv and Ryan last week. I wouldn't suggest shining a very bright light on the plot (maybe not even a penlight), but it was an entertaining ride and the eye candy was a nice plus.

Actually I was surprised they cast Chris Evans in the lead and we didn't even get a shirtless scene (the back was only exposed for FX) - and yet underage Dakota Fanning is running around in revealing outfits? Maybe it's a Hong Kong thing.

In my head I added a scene before the end craziness where they pour several bottles of Southern Comfort into the girl to heighten her precognitive abilities, because otherwise it doesn't make sense that they could pull that off.

I didn't mind the film (and the company was excellent), but I think that in the "young people who have superpowers with other people hunting them led by an intimidating black guy" genre I liked Jumper a little better.

That's a tough call. I liked Jumper well enough, but it loses points because it strayed too far from its source material - I know nothing of the origins of Push. I've also seen too much Samuel Jackson lately.
