Seven good things

Jun 12, 2008 00:37

I have been watching a movie that's making me sad and lonely, and what better to do when you're lonely than snuggle up to the internet in the middle of the night? So I am choosing from among my unposted posts, and tonight I choose "good things."

* Tiny tiny baby puppy, adorable baby seahorses, and praying mantis thrill.

* Melanie Roach: mother of three including an autistic son, wife of a state legislator, 117 pounds, girly girl, and Olympic weightlifter.

* Saturday: the local public radio newsreader forecast "monotonous, unpleasant" weather through Wednesday. Ha. I admire frankness in forecasting.

* As if Raiders of the Lost Ark wasn't enough reason to love Karen Allen: she's a knitting and fiber arts enthusiast and has her own store.

*

It's a basking shark and it only eats plankton, but it makes my heart race a little. I love that this animal exists. British scientists recently tagged a female named Tracey and she showed up 82 days later 9000 km away in Newfoundland, defying everything that had previously been thought about the basking shark's range and movements.

* I was not aware that "Hockey Night in Canada" is more the Canadian national anthem than "O Canada," but all the distressed interviewees on the CBC podcasts are saying so now that the CBC might be dropping it. Despite my sympathy, though, when Stephen Colbert went to the trouble of licensing the song just so he could play it on his show while holding an American flag, eating a hot dog, and waving around a toy handgun, silly man made me laugh hard.

* I need seven things, so: John Barrowman showing up in films as a gay man named Jack.
