Worm farming gains state recognition

A bill signed last week by Gov. Ted Kulongoski declares vermiculture, or worm farming, an official form of agriculture, and worms will join other crops on the state's list of tax-exempt farm products when the bill becomes law in January.

Hee. Well, the cost of living in Arkansas is pretty low compared to most places, but our government is nowhere near progressive enough to recognize vermiculture as a form of agriculture. Alas. (I doubt many of our senators and representatives even know what vermiculture is. I'd be happy if we had recycling pickup for apartment buildings in the capital city!) In my hurry I forgot to note that that news story was about the state of Oregon.

But yay Oregon! Where one state goes, with a little campaigning, others may follow!
