Names in Sekaiichi Hatsukoi
Just got curious and made a visit to the dictionary to see if there is any pattern in naming in SiH. It's not really important and rather splitting hairs but I like this kind of stuffs. Not until now have I realized the pun in Chiaki's pen name: 野 ("field") replaced by 川 ("river"), and 秋 ("autumn") replaced by 春 ("spring"). Well played. What is pronounced "tori" in Hatori is indeed 鳥 ("bird"). So they are calling him a creature with feather and wings when they shorten his name into "Tori"?
And Masamune has the same given name as the One-eyed Dragon Date Masamune. Woot. More awesomeness factor for the already cool guy then. Admittedly I know less about the historical figure than the Sengoku Basara character but whatever. The meaning of the kanji of Ritsu 律 is rather sombre though. "Law" or "Commandment"? Certainly doesn't fit his image. Kind of funny that both Masamune and Ritsu's first name kanjis seem to refer to "control" in one way or another. Also noteworthy is that Ritsu's and An-chan's surnames both start with 小, although it's pronounced differently in the two names. The two names also have three kanjis. An-chan's surname Kohinata sounds really cute, if I may say so about another person's surname.
Yukina's first name is certainly regal, though I myself would not call it a "princely" name, because 皇 means Emperor. Wow. I wonder if he gets teased a lot for his name, because a name like that is kind of asking for it.
