Happy Canada Day! For once, I actually did something on Canada Day. I returned to my old stomping ground in Scarborough to spend part of the day with my siblings. They had both been talking about wanting to do something, so I suggested we go to
Thomson Memorial Park as it was close to them and not too difficult for me to get to from my part of the city. Anyway, I don't think any of us had celebrated Canada Day at Thomson Park since some time in the 80s when it was a family tradition for us to go.
My siblings were kind enough to bring a picnic lunch and had chosen an excellent shady spot near the stage. One of the first things we noticed was the Scarborough sign, reminiscent of the
Toronto sign downtown:

After eating a very nice lunch and watching some of the entertainment (which included a performance by a band named Kick), we decided to visit
Scarborough Museum, which was the main reason why I wanted to go to Thomson Park in the first place. I suspect that this is another place that I hadn't seen since the 80s or possibly 90s. Scarborough Museum is made up of four historical buildings that were set up on land that was granted to David and Mary Thomson in the 1790s. We mostly focused on the McCowan Log House, which was built around 1830 and moved to its site at Thomson Park in 1974, and Cornell House, which was built in 1858 in Scarborough Village and moved from that location in 1961 to make way for an overpass.

After visiting Scarborough Museum, we decided to check out some of the vendors. I had planned to treat E and B to some ice cream, but the lines were just too long. None of us were particularly hungry after our picnic lunch, though, so maybe that wasn't a bad thing. We ended up sitting in the shade for a bit before leaving Thomson Park.
