Fashion Guide for Beginners

My bb avalonestel asked me for a starting point so she could get to know the workings of fashion better, so I decided to make this guide.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ILU.

THIS IS SO COHERENT AND CONDENSED AND I COULD NEVER WRITE SOMETHING LIKE THIS SO THANK YOU.

My point of view on fashion houses is pretty much business-tainted, so it was refreshing to see them from a purely aesthetics pov. McQueen and Galliano put on the best shows ever. I was definitely shocked to hear McQueen had passed away. I had just been coveting his alien fish shoes from the previous seasons. ;__; I'm normally more fond of the odd fashion houses like Maison Martin Margiela and Comme des Garcons though. Still, my favourite ready-to-wear line lately has been Lanvin. They've been very consistent and Alber Elbaz really knows what women want. Or, well, what I want, lolol.

My latest model crush is Freja Beha Erichsen. Girl is gorgeous irl.

...You have rly inspired me to write endless essays about ~fashion. Dammit. ;__;

THANK YOU FOR THIS LOVELY GORGEOUS COMMENT ILU ♥

Ahh, well that's good then, this made you look at them a different way. I WAS DEVASTATED. I have always been in awe of him and his shows are so consistently inspiring and his last collection is so STUNNING. I would have loved to see it in motion.

I especially love these pieces:

Ahh McQueen's last tribute show. ;_____; The label goes on, but now we'll never get his kind of genius again. He had something that's quite out of this world with a touch of madness, and I loved that. ...I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE I'M TALKING ABOUT HIM IN PAST TENSE.

Margiela shows are definitely wtf-worthy sometimes. But then those pieces appear in editorials and I'm like "!!!! I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE."

Stam was my first ever model crush and she forever remains the most gorgeous girl in the entire world to me. <3

...I can't seem to shut up when I talk about fashion. /o\

...Also, I CAN'T WAIT TIL SPRING/SUMMER 2011. September, come faster. It's so nice to spend the beginning of every schoolyear fawning over pretty clothes and pretty girls.

THIS MAY JUST BE THE SINGLE MOST AWESOME, LOVELY, WONDERFUL THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE FOR ME. *kills you with hugs* This post is completely epic, and soooo professional. It was like reading an article in a magazine. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It's going to take me some time to go through it all, but OMG it's so fascinating! I'm reading about the histories of the houses and just started watching the Alexander Wang Fall 2010 show - hopefully I'll catch up and actually know what's going on so we can talk about it.

THANK YOU AGAIN, BB. YOU ARE THE MOST FABULOUS PERSON IN THE WORLD.

YOU ARE SO WELCOME AND THANK YOU!!!! I just really want to spread the love of fashion because I only have a small handful of people in my flist to spazz with this stuff about. I'm glad I'm getting you to try this new thing, and you can consider this part of your Quest for Knowledge too! :)

Haha, hopefully I'd have caught up with all of it by then too

Ahhh Alexander Wang FW10 was gorgeous. A lot of people don't really like him, but his style is one that I really like.

YOU ARE ALWAYS SO WELCOME THANK YOU SO MUCH ILU ♥

ACTUALLY I WAS PLANNING ON MAKING TODAY'S QFK POST ALL ABOUT THIS NGL. I just wanted to find some cool pics and things to post with it. I honestly never would have thought I'd find runway fashion so interesting.

I really like the concept of the show - I've always been into business suit-type clothes, and the added layer of gothiness makes it really neat. I'm watching it and keeping track of which models are who with the slideshow from style.com. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR LINKS I SWEAR I'D BE COMPLETELY LOST OTHERWISE.

*squeezes you*

COOL CAN'T WAIT TO READ IT Haha I used to not to, but then after immersing myself with it--literally, I would go to the school's computer lab and watch shows in style.com and ahemstealahem pages of fashion magazines from my French class. My friends used to call me DAMN STAM because I would talk about her incessantly. My love for it is pretty much enclosed in this one little paragraph I did for a meme ( ... )

FASHION EXPLOSION

WOW, that must have taken a while to put together.
Although that was really cool to watch and read about.

I (incredibly enough) new a little! haha
I think out of all the vids that you linked, I think that my favorite one was the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring 2007. I really liked the dress designs and the head pieces/hats that the models wore.
Although I loved a lot of the other designs, they were all very exotic and artistic.

Thank you! *hugs* It was awesome of you to share this with us.

You told me that you were going to be taking classes in culinary arts, but did you ever consider going into fashion? Because with what you know, you could really do something cool in the industry.

I mean you know so much, and you've liked it for so long. I think that even without connections, you should try to go into it anyway.
Some people start small and have to work their way to the top, don't they?
And you're so awesome, I bet that you could do it!

Haha took me at least an hour and a half. :)
Thank you so much!!

Oh cool!

THAT SHOW WAS FLAWLESS. Every single dress was crafted so beautifully from head to bottom. It was just a museum all on its own.

You're welcome! *hugs back* Thank you!

Yes, I was actually planning that when I was in my sophomore year. I even attended a FIDM meeting when a representative of theirs came to our school. But the problem is, it's not really up to me where I go. I'm not the ones paying for tuition. My dad is, and he doesn't really approve of it. He knows how much I love it--I mean, I always watch Project Runway whenever it's on, but he doesn't think it's a very rational way to make a living. But at least he's supporting me with my culinary goal, which is about as equal as my love for fashion anyway. :) Thanks bb. ♥

*bows to you* That's a lot of work.
You are very welcome!

I know right?! :DD

I'm glad that you agree. It just hit me, I guess because of how I draw, I mean I like to design new outfits depending on the design for the character I'm drawing. So yeah, maybe.

*hugs* You're welcome!

That's cool! Yeah, my dad will too.
I've been able to catch a couple of episodes on Project Runway and of what I've seen, I really enjoyed!
Yeah, you never know how well off you'll be, unfortunately.

Exactly. I love cooking, and you obviously do too, so that's awesome that he respects your wishes and is willing to pay for the other thing that you enjoy!
Well, I'm rooting for you the whole way!
