So I re-read the His Dark Materials trilogy after watching The Golden Compass, and the books seems a lot preachier the second time 'round. (I'm looking at you, Ruta Skadi).
Speaking of the movie, I have to say I think it's a fair effort at adapting the books to a mainly visual medium. But I do think a lot of the subtlety was lost, which is a shame.
