The controversy about the Washington Redskins team name has been going on for some time, but recently has been picking up steam again. Team owner Daniel Snyder has repeatedly stated the name was an honor bestowed years ago. History paints a much different story as can be read about here in this Washington Post article :
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/a-brief-history-of-the-word-redskin-and-how-it-became-a-source-of-controversy/2016/05/19/062cd618-187f-11e6-9e16-2e5a123aac62_story.html Daniel Snyder has declared the team will never change its name, and many will never cease their demands that he do so.
I have a compromise - keep the name, change the logo.
The current logo on the Redskins helmets and team paraphernalia is that of a Native American warrior with a 2 feathered headdress. Change that and you change the entire meaning of the term.
Behold :
Instead of a warrior with feathers you have a redskin potato with garnish. And who doesn't love redskin potatoes? Baked, mashed, in a salad - they are a versatile and tasty member of the potato family.
Snyder will be happy he can keep the name, everyone else will be happy the name is now associated with something acceptable and good. A win-win as they say.
I can't take credit for this potato logo. It has been bouncing around on sports boards for years and I do not know who did it originally so I can't credit them. But I can thank them, and I do.
So whaddaya think?
