The Cute Lepers and The Powerchords were as amazing as I'd hoped. The dudes in Avenue Rose all seemed younger than I am and I couldn't differentiate between a lot of their songs, but still better than a lot of touring punk bands I've ever seen.
We played a very short set, and it really made me happy to see a lot of my friends in the crowd. Greg Rodrigue hopped around in a tuxedo jacket and a dog mask through our entire set. Times like this really bring to mind how absolutely lucky I am to be in a band with people I respect on all levels of intellect, creativity, and proficiency. Pumpkin is basically the sound and sight of my brain vomiting its contents in the form of various candies.
A lot of our friends left either during or after Avenue Rose's set, which seriously bummed me out. It's hard to convince anyone to be excited for bands I like, especially with my "I LIKE SKA!" pedigree still carried over from 2000.
The Powerchords held true to my hopes of pulling off "Singles Going Steady"-era (however many years that spans) Buzzcocks type of stuff, as well as some of their more modern harmonic/harmonizing elements. The lead singer even kind of sounds like an American Pete Shelley without being Billie Joe Armstrong.
It's probably not even worth mentioning how good The Cute Lepers were.
We're playing again at the end of October, somewhere, with The Screaming Females and maybe some other dudes. I'M EXCITE ALL READY.
GOING TO SLEEP, but in the meantime, here's your homework:
