Ah, brilliant day! Seriously, it was brilliant. I'm still smiling. I had a few doubts about it yesterday, but no, today was a delight. I knew we were having a special speaker for our Jane meeting and I was like ehhh...because I didn't want to sit through two hours of Jane info reduced to dreary facts or something, but no! We had the head of Omaha Public Libraries speak to us and she was the awesome. I liked her talk, and she had so much to talk about. She told me about the Omaha Sherlock Holmes society, which I've been looking for, only to learn that they only accept men. What the crap. That actually pisses me off quite a bit, but perhaps someone will start an equal opportunity Sherlock Holmes group. The head of libraries suggested we have a Jane Austen-Arthur Conan Doyle trivia night, where undoubtedly, the Janeites would lay the smackdown. I'm serious. Don't they realize Holmes was bested by a woman?! Argh.
Anyway, sexism issues aside, I just really liked this lady and what she was doing at the library, so I asked her if she might have any job openings or any employment ideas, so she gave me her email and suggested we start a conversation. She asked me for my card, and I was thinking, "Damn. I need cards." But I'm totally looking into that, even if the economy is tanking like the Hindenburg, and the library doesn't offer health insurance, and is possibly headed for major cuts, I don't care. It's gotta be more fun to work there than at my current place of employment. At least it's closer to my major. Look at me, networking girl.
Also, the ladies discussed the possibility of having a Janecon in Omaha. I think it would be awesome, and would love to help, and I don't think we're too small to do it, but I do think it's going to take a helluva lot of work and planning, and there are definitely some questions and issues to be addressed, but still how cool would that be?! And there's a five year waiting list for host cities, so there's plenty of time to figure it out.
And we actually had a lady come to the meeting who spoke at the Janecon in Chicago, and I'm like holy crap, and she gave us a little talk as well, just offhand, but she was great too. I liked her discussion of whether or not Lydia and Wickham had already had sex before they ran off together, and she mentioned the line from Lydia's letter saying how she needed to have the great slit in her dress repaired. So that makes me think this would be a great new euphemism, such as, "If you're going to get your dress slit tonight, use protection!" or "Dude, he's totally looking to slit someone's dress tonight." That makes me smile so much.
I am such a literary nerd with too many active hormones.
And it's springlike outside! And they're planning on such weather for the next week or so! Sweet! I wore a jacket and scarf to my meeting, but I didn't even need my jacket by the time I was out and running. And my scarf looked cute and wasn't incredibly warm, so I left that on. But yay! Spring approacheth!
Um, let's see, other things to do: finish novel section or at least try, read for book club, rewrite my resume (again), and think about job interview questions. And my horoscope said I should daydream to music or go to the movies tomorrow, which won't be hard, since I'm always daydreaming to music (very bad habit while you're driving), and I'm going to see Watchmen tomorrow, so I'm fulfilling my potential it seems. Kudos to me.
Hmm, better go root out my allergy meds. Pollen'll be up before you know it.
