OH NOES! Another David Drake anthology!
This one, however, is more about humor - and some of the stories are quite funny.
"The Enchanted Bunny" is a story about a man sucked into a fantasy world. It's not really laugh out loud funny, but it is definitely humorous.
"The Noble Savages" is about a commando group under very strict political correctness guidelines investigating a mystery on a primitive planet. It's definitely funny, though it's almost definitely not for everybody.
"Airborne All the Way!" is possibly much more broadly humorous, and set in the Magic: The Gathering universe. The goblins in this one crack me up.
"Cannibal Plants from Heck", a sort of modern day story, I didn't find funny at all. I'd almost categorize it more as a horror story, myself.
"The Bond" I also don't find funny - it's, well, weird, and, I don't know, it reminds me more of Robert Silverburg or somebody than anything else.
"Mom and the Kids" is really funny, a story about a Von Neumann robot in "The Fleet" universe.
"The Bullhead" is an amusing tale, set in the 1800s in North Carolina - though if getting your "knackers" shot off let you talk to animals, lots of Turtledove's characters would be! (Or so it seems, at times.) It's funniest in its descriptions of what animals talk about, as well as the resolution of the story.
Finally, "A Very Offensive Weapon" is a funny take on the "after the victory" part of the a Lord of the Rings-esque war.
Like most Drake books, you'll probably either know you'll like it, or not, but this one perhaps has a possibly wider appeal than most - and might be a better way of "easing" into some of his darker books.
