These was a sort-of convention for vintage cars in town, there was a parade-thingy where the owners drove their old cars through town and my dad took a few pictures.
Some were nice, some were clunky (one was shaped like a rectangular box), one was freaking gorgeous - Aston Martin - , and then there were the cars from the GDR.
One looked like I took

There's a tony tennis club behind my parents' house, and somebody with an Aston Martin occasionally used to park on the street. And I saw a Lamborghini parked at a rest stop along the highway today.

there's a story that an Arabian nobleman noticed in how much demand those cars were in the GDR - people had to wait years before they could get one - and thought that meant that those cars must have been fantastic. (That was not the reason why people had to wait years to own a car, that was the shitty management and lack of resources) The car is utter crap and partially made out of cardboard. So the niobleman ordered one, and the ambassador immediately travelled there and presented him one of them.
The nobleman responded by saying how nice it was of them to give him a little model of the car in advance, and that you could even drive a little around in it, and then asked when the real car would arrive.
...nope, not kidding.
usually I don't care much about cars - 4 wheels, all necessary parts working and a not horrible design - but Aston Martins plainly rock. And Lamborghini as well, naturally.

Yeah, I don't know a lot about cars (and don't even have a driver's licence), but I do like nice ones. Some of them just have a mystique about them, anyway.

I always mean to learn more about cars, mainly how to do basic repair and mainentance, but I guess I can put that off until I have a car...so, maybe 3 years.
and get a refresh course in first aid, when I'm at it

Now that is a funny and not-so comfortable-looking car. Reminds me of the old French Renault 4L... They're often the butt of jokes because they look odd and they don't have one thing that's not mechanical (no point looking for the air conditioning button :P), but they're the sort of car that never dies. You could go through a zombie apocalypse with one of these. To wit (and sorry for the width of the picture!):

yes, I'm a careful driver, so I wouldn't get to experience the car's full potential, but still - it would be awesome to drive one.
The trabbi broke down frequently, but the upside was that it was made from cheap materials and that if you knew very basic engineering (or had a friend who did) and if you had a piece of cardboard or plywood, you could fix it yourself
