Summary: Desensitivity to beauty is an awful thing.
Notes: Largely inspired by my own experience. Tourists visit in the summer with awe on their faces, which forcefully reminds me how beautiful my home state is.

“I’ll never see stars the same way,” she breathed as tears streaked down the sky’s face.
The full moons dominated the heavens, hanging heavy above them like sentinels of cold indifference. But the stars were ubiquitous: everywhere she looked, supine on the hill outside the ruins where grass waved gently in warm breezes, everywhere were brilliant lines of white arcing across the sky.
Starstorms were common here, so common that no locals cared about them anymore, but as a foreigner from a land where the ground-lights drowned out lovelier sky-lights, she felt as an ant would among giants.
