“What’s going to happen to us now?”
Princess Abigail asked this to her mother as she tucked her in. On this occasion the young girl was staying with her mother.
Analise smoothed a stray lock out of Abigail’s face.
“What do you mean?”
“Papa is dead,” Abigail said shifting under the heavy covers. “And now Lord Frederic is gone as well. Who’s going to take care of us?”
Analise smiled. “I am, of course.”
“But you’re a woman. Papa once told me the man has to take care of the women and children.”
Analise’s lips thinned.
“Well the woman can take of the children if she has enough resources,” Analise said.
“Do you have enough resources?” Abigail asked worriedly.
Analise kissed her daughter’s forehead.
“I have an abundance of resources.”
