Notes: This happens pretty far on in the story. You can probably tell that Addie's been freezing for a while now. She's gotten really callous and careless.

Addie leaned back in her chair and propped her feet up on the table. This was time at its most peaceful- frozen.
She was in a restaurant, right by the mall. IHOP. A waiter was bending over the table next to where she sat alone, his tray full of pancakes. He was as still as stone. A girl, who looked about 9, was grinning at the sight of the food, completely still. Her mother was frozen with her coffee half way towards her mouth.

Addie loved people when time was frozen. They never failed to look ridiculous, part way through some action or other. Zipping up her jacket (frozen time is cold!), she left the restaurant.

Addie never felt guilty leaving the IHOP without paying. It was such a big chain; it would never miss one girl’s meal.

The mall was just as silent as the restaurant. She walked in to a clothing store, not really registering the name. It was just another one of those stores that sold shirts with their name printed on all their shirts that all the girls at school wore. Addie walked through the tops, not wanting to be a walking ad for the shop. She took a pair of jeans and a belt. There was no need to stuff it in her bag, or even hurry, like most shoplifters. She would be at home before any of these people were even conscious. They probably wouldn’t even realize that the clothes were gone.

Frozen time alone was heaven. The world was hers, as long as she wanted it. The possibilities were endless.
