Title: Absence
Challenge: Cherry Chocolate Chip #23
Toppings: None
Word Count: 256
Summary: It was just one of those days. But it seemed like everyday lately.
Rating: G
Notes: Takes place in April 2007. Christina works for a small interior design company in Maple Hill. Muneca means doll in Spanish.
“Mari Carlita!”
Mari pretended to be sleep. She knew it was morning by the clock flashing on her bedside table. She had turned her alarm off the previous night so it wouldn’t wake her up.
Her mother opened the bedroom door. The light shined above and penetrated through her princess covers.
“Mari, I know you hear me. Wake up, it’s time for school.”
Mari groaned softly.
Christina walked over to the bed. She pulled the covers off of Mari. Mari scrunched up until a ball at the sight of the bright lights.
“It’s time for school, muñeca. Come on, wake up,” Christina said starting to shake Mari.
“Mom stop it! I don’t feel well,” Mari said.
Christina stopped and looked at Mari. She put her hand on her forehead.
“Well you do feel a little warm. Are you sure you don’t feel up to going?”
Mari nodded. Christina sighed.
“I’ll call the school and tell them you’ll be absent. I have work today, so I won’t be able to stay at home with you, but I’ll call your Abuela and ask her to stay with you.”
Mari smiled. “Thanks Mom.”
Christina smiled softly at her before turning to leave.
“I’ll tell Daniel to bring your homework for you. Don’t think you’d get out of geometry that easily.”
Mari sighed and flopped back on the bed. At least for one day she didn’t have to worry about school. But she knew that she couldn’t stay home forever and that worried her even more.
Would it never end?

Title: Don't Know Why
Challenge: Bubble Gum 8: password
Toppings: None
Word Count: 346
Summary: She didn't even know why she remembered his name, but apparently he could remember the password.
Rating: G
Notes: Takes place on November 19, 2011. OOHOYA is an online service in both this verse and the one above that provides email, instant messaging, and other things of that nature.
Jessica hurried to the computer lab. She desperately wanted to check her email to see if Michael had sent her a message. She had been trying to contact him since last week. She called his cell like a million times and he still hadn’t picked up.
She opened the door and looked around. No one was in there, which was perfect. She could freak out in peace.
She sat down at a computer and turned it on. She waited for it to load. A pop up box appeared.
“Password?” Jessica said clicking the box repeatedly.
How was she supposed to know the stupid password? The computers in the library didn’t have passwords.
“Why does it seem like I’m always helping you?” A voice behind her said.
Jessica turned and was surprised to see Ryan Biermann. She frowned at him. How did she remember his name anyway?
“What are you doing here?” She asked rudely.
“This is the computer club’s hackerspace,” he said putting his hands in his pockets.
“Your what?”
“Look we do our work here. Do you want me to help you or not?”
Jessica recoiled at his tone. She responded by scooting back.
He bent over and typed in something and then clicked OK. Suddenly the desktop showed.
“Thank you!”
Ryan smiled before stepping back. He turned to leave.
“Oh thank you for letting me, you know. I got an A,” she said quietly.
“Correction, Miss Johnson. I got an A,” he said before walking off.
Jessica arched her eyebrows at his back. He sat down with some other boys. He looked over to where she was sitting, but she put down her head.
She brought up the OOHOYA web page and started her email. She couldn’t even remember what she wanted to say, but she had come all the way here from the lunch room, so she supposed she should figure out something to say. Then the trip wouldn’t have been a complete waste. But as she typed, she knew the trip hadn’t been a waste either way. She just didn’t know why.
