“Something--happened, I know.” Isaac laced his hands awkwardly. “But it’s gone away now. You have, well, I’m not sure what you’re going to have yet, but I can tell you what you can have. A home. A place where you can actually live out, and things can get better and--“ He stopped. “Look, I know I might just be repeating the same stuff, but only because I’m serious about it.”
The boy still didn’t face him, but Isaac could tell he meant it differently. There was a pause, the obtrusive ticking of a clock. Perhaps accompanied by a spark in dim eyes. Isaac wasn’t sure--however, he could definitely believe it.
“And it’ll be better. I promise.”
