EVERYONE MUST READ THIS!
I would like to announce a major change to the rules.
As of now, I am removing the flavor cap entirely. You no longer have 5 slots. You no longer have slots at all.
Now, before you start panicking "OMG there are 4000-something prompts! That's overwhelming!" (this is the initial reaction it's gotten so far in people I've discussed it with, but it tends to dissipate) It is totally up to you how you approach the lists. You can limit yourself to 1 at a time, or 3, or 5, or just hop about from list to list doing the ones you like without worrying about finishing a flavor ever again.
I saw what a big relief people found the freezer to be. It's nice to be able to put a flavor aside when you're sick of looking at it, and this would accomplish that without the convoluted rules of the freezer. I also know some members plan out what to do with flavors way ahead of time and then wait for ages to get to them. Some of us have Treats or hat draws or flavors that we have been eyeing but scared to do because we doubt we would finish them and don't want to tie up a slot forever. These are all stories we are putting off writing or stashing away for later and no one gets to read them that way either.
This is likely to lead to a lot of started and uncompleted flavors, but it's also likely to lead to more writing and more posting and ultimately that is the real point of RaTs.
To balance this out a bit, we are making some less monumental changes as well. To encourage people to still finish flavors we are working on putting together a whole slew of bonus challenges so you can gain banners and bragging rights for finishing particular sets of flavors. Some of these should be in place in the near future. We're also adding a feature to the banner posts. When you leave your request for a banner, leave a link to a piece from that flavor that you'd like to share and we'll post it with your banner. When you see banner posts, instead of just leaving a comment, go read the piece!
On an unrelated but happy note, I patched together the old version of the hat and it is functional again! I will be doing drawings soon.
