Summary: I can only pray that I never come across a child like Firebird in my classroom! She's five here.
"Girls!" Ms. Spring hurried across the playground but didn't make it in time to stop Firebird from hitting her classmate, Lauren with the plastic shovel they were fighting over.
Ms. Spring scooped the shovel out of both their grasps then crouched down and wrapped a hand loosely around each of the girls' arms. "Are you okay, sweetie?" she asked Lauren first.
Lauren nodded, obviously unhurt, so Ms. Spring turned to Firebird. "We don't hit our friends, Firebird."
Firebird glared at Lauren. "She tried to take the shovel out of my hands!"
"And that wasn't right of her, but that doesn't mean you get to hit her. Hitting our friends is never okay, do you understand?"
The little girl was still glaring but she nodded shortly. Ms. Spring motioned to Lauren. "Now I want you to give Lauren a hug and say you're sorry."
Firebird wrapped her arms around the other girl as she was told then pulled back and looked at the teacher. "But I'm not sorry."
