The doors to my room opened and I glanced up to meet the light blue eyes of Chloris as she walked in my direction. I resisted the urge to wrinkle up my nose at her; dressed in her normal silks though this time the color was turquoise and her regular golden jewelry. However the golden envelope in her hand was not regular. I regarded it a moment and then headed around the other side of my bed as she nearly came to a stop.

"Chloris...always a pleasure..." I mumbled out in a sarcastic tone as I set an enhancement serum in the night table drawer. I wanted to be prepared; I was in enemy territory and there as always a chance I needed to use it.

Chloris didn't spare me the wrinkling of her own nose as she stopped in front of me. "Seren, I was forced to come here, so I wouldn't call it a pleasure and you should't either." Chloris' smile was forced as well though it didn't matter because I didn't bother gracing her with one.

"Sure, whatever. What brings you to my room?"

Chloris held out the envelope with a bored expression. "The Emperor wishes for me to give you this letter." I all but snatched the envelope from her hand, held it under my arm and waited, staring at the woman patiently.

Chloris was still standing with an expectant look on her face and I growled in annoyance. For being the only the Emperor's concubine, she was quite sure of herself. She acted like she was queen herself or something.

Well...I wasn't one to bow down to somebody who didn't deserve it.

"You can remove yourself now." I said, turning and heading toward the window.

I could basically hear Chloris' frustration at not being able to read my letter and also the string of profanity as the sound of her anklet bells signaled her departure. After the concubine left, I cocked my head curiously looking at the envelope. When I turned it over however, the symbol at the top made my blood run cold.

"Marciano..." I whispered out, my hand shaking as I began to open the envelope. I pulled out the paper inside and began to read each word, my breath hitched in my throat.

"Seren...it's wonderful to know that you are well. I really had wondered if you had disappeared off the face of the earth. But now that you have been located, let me tell you something..."

My eyes continued reading, knowing that whatever he had to say next wasn't going to be pretty.

"WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING?!! You really must have lost your everloving mind this time, Seren. Wanna know how I know that? Because I paid for you, you little bitch! What makes you think you have any right to runaway from me?! What, you think you're a queen or something? NEWSFLASH! You're nothing! You were never anything and you're never going to be anything...but mine!"

I resisted the desire to crumple up the letter, and I kept reading.

"What's going to happen is that I'm going to come and get you from the palace. You better not run and you best believe that when I get you back to the mansion, the beating you got last time from me will look like chicken shit compared to this. I won't kill you...which makes you lucky; the punishment for running away is usually death. But you are worth too much to me as a Fighter."

I glared at his threat. The last words were nothing short of rage.

"You're going to regret ever stepping foot outside my boundaries, Seren! This I guarantee!"

Your Master,
Julien C. Marciano

I finally let out the anger I had trapped inside, crumpling up the expensive paper I held, and rolling it into a ball. With a furious scream, I threw the paper ball across the room, then started toward my bedroom door. My emotions were enraged but my mind was in such turmoil.

How the hell did Julien find me?

What was going to happen to the mission now?

How was I going to get myself out of this?

As I walked out of the door, I just so happened to catch a glimpse of Chloris leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. At my distressed face, she asked in a all too sweet voice, "Aww...that must have been a pretty awful letter huh?"

"Fuck off, you whore!" I growled back in anger.

She just snickered.
