Her mother has been dead for six months. Just over, actually, if one is counting, which Clara is. Her mother has been dead for six months and her whole world is shaken.
It's odd, Clara thinks, sitting on a bench and swinging her legs, how much the death of a parent can throw you. They're supposed to be invincible, untouchable. Immortal.
She sighs sharply, and gets up. It wouldn’t do to be late for class. After all, it is her first day back since she took a leave of absence.
And she does so want her mother to be proud.
