It wasn’t that Sylvia didn’t like her father’s company parties. She just didn’t like the process leading up to it. It was always filled with dress fittings, and etiquette quizzes, and comments about her weight from her mother. More often than not, the comments led to having her food served to her in specific portions that were smaller than what was on other people's plates.
Compared to that, the parties weren’t so bad. In a way, she considered it a test for when she would be married to Richard. She imagined it would probably be the same.
