Alice was sick of hearing her parents talk about how much Rose had messed up her life, now that she had a little girl in her life. She was sick of being compared to her, like she was some sort of perfect child, especially now that she wouldn’t be able to hide the morning sickness or her growing stomach for much longer.
And once their parents found out, Rose’s ‘mistake’ wouldn’t even matter. Alice knew that all they would see was that both of their daughters had been impregnated out of wedlock, and the father of Alice’s child was black.
