Title: The Machine
Summary: Jack builds a new machine. One that hasn't exploded yet.
Back to School Challenge for Chopped Nuts
Jack fiddled with the gear-shifts of his new machine. For all intents and purposes, he was done.
To be honest, he was surprised at how easy this machine was to make. He didn't think a soul switcher would be that easy. But here he was, the machine was finished and nothing had exploded.
Well, he should really say, nothing had exploded yet. He hadn't actually turned the machine on. But he was certain it would work. After all, he had to be able to build at least one machine without a fire or explosion. Right?

“Hey, do you remember the floor scrubber?” Meghan sat back in her chair and propped her feet on the small table in front of her.
Aaron pushed his glasses up his nose and gave Meghan a pointed look. “Do you mean the one that sent water everywhere or the one that made the hole in the kitchen? The hole that took me three weeks to fix.”
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean for the scrubber to explode. It shouldn't have exploded. Everything was sound.”
“Jack, Jack, Jack. Of course it was sound. It was just a very large explosion sound.” Meghan started laughing while Jack tried to come up with a reply.
“I know you didn't mean for the machine to explode Jack.” Aaron shook his head, sending his glasses sliding down his nose. “You never mean for your machines to explode. However, there is no denying the fact that, more often than not, they do explode.”
“Oh, I know. Why don't you try to build an exploding machine.” Meghan smirked at the boys' confused expressions. “After all, if your machines explode when you try to make them not explode, if you try to make them explode, they won't.”
“Meghan, that makes no sense. I suggest Jack just leave off inventing. Obviously he has no talent for it.”
Jack's eyes narrowed. He stood up and walked out of the room. He would show them. He would make a useful invention if it was the last thing he did. Five corridors and two flights of stairs later, Jack sighed as he realized it may very well be the last thing he did.
