“There are moments that are Fated,” Nonna once explained, “and moments that we shape through free will. Existence requires balance between the two. What we See is Fate, Torey, that is the most important thing you will ever know. We cannot change what is Fated. To try otherwise will ruin you.” Panic and urgency cracked her voice. “You must never forget that we cannot alter what will be.”
His mind rings with her words as Torey climbs into the car, and it's with this knowledge that he drives toward his destiny.
“Fate,” he murmurs to himself just seconds before impact.
