You know what? Snow White was on to something: Apple is just not to be trusted.
On Thursday, Bunnie talked with my class via Skype, the educational reasoning being so they could see for themselves how China and Canada differed at a given moment (think time zones - we're learning about the solar system). So on Wednesday I brought my laptop (a MacBook Pro) to Bruce the IT guy to get Skype working. This had a good news/bed news result, as I learned the hard way on Thursday. The good news was that - yay! - Skype was functional and good to go. The bad news was that Skype and Safari (Apple's default browser) were pretty much the only things that worked. Tried to print, and it wanted a password I didn't have...and then didn't recognize the printer. Tried to connect a flashdrive into the USB port and the computer had no reaction. At all. Tried to open Notebook and it sent up a blurb declaring that its version was compatible with the OS I was running. Needless to say that today, I brought the laptop back to the dynamic IT duo for repair.
They're reformatting it and re-installing a new OS system. Or so they said. I'll have to go back over the break to retrieve it if I want to use it. My hopes? They're lower than low on this score. I may very well just leave it with them until school starts back up...except I really do need it to put some flipcharts together and some other work.
*sigh* Moscow Rule #9: Technology will always fail you.
