Just one thing I can't help but reply to.
You do know that canon doesn't have to be blatantly obvious, right? :D
...Well, other than being blatantly obvious.
Think CLAMP. Homosexual couples often don't kiss or act romance-novel lovey-dovey. For example, in Tsubasa, KuroFai is so canon is simply cannot be denied. But it's possible to be in something so mainstream because people who don't want to see it simply haven't.
In my opinion, the same goes for Naruto, the most popular shounen manga by One Piece. Most guys don't see that bromancey-ness between the main two characters even though on a title page they were wearing matching pendants of each other and that blushy awkwardness not between any other pair of main characters after they both had a close encounter with death and one nearly died saving the other. Not to mention the heroine loved one of them so much, she was willing to kill him because she didn't want him to turn completely to the darkness. ...Next thing we know, the hero is like, "I'll take on all your hatred" and basically offered to fight to the death and die with him. ......You get my point?
They don't need to be obvious, but Shizaya as a canon couple could technically be canon.
I highly doubt it though. Narita got his wish and people are converting to ShizuxVoro everywhere.
It's also kind of painful because most of Shizaya fans are just in it for the "hatesex" porn, and don't even know what the two are even about.
It's not so much about homophobia, just that most people prefer not to see two guys together doing the bedchacha. It's a tad different. I still facepalm at them for not appreciating the beauty, but whatever.
But nothing will stop Shizaya. Ever.
Sure, the novel is the original and thus canon, but many prefer to consider the anime as their canon. And well... In the anime... ...Well, let's just say that in episode 25 Izaya took a whole day off just to trollbait Shizuo, and Shizuo was chasing Izaya around. ...And near the end, when it's night and we see the bridge, we see Shizuo STILL CHASING HIM.
...Uhm, yeah. Obviously, the anime took its liberties, but that should speak for itself.
