** Just a bit of reflection as 2014 is preparing its entrance. **
As I was doing my best of 2013 students series, I just realized that I could never be happy in a company that simply follows trends or a place that disregards the value of research in favor of a quick buck and short term goals. I understand that business means death of innovation for many companies (unless you're willing to challenge the status quo but then those companies end up getting bought out because of their innovation, too). Many innovators are not very good businessmen (*sigh* Tesla), hence, many indie practitioners remain to be starving artists for love of the craft.
I know where I belong. The academe it is, where yeah...it's a publish or perish world, but at least you're churning out something new with every iteration. These are reflected on your works and your students' works. In the academe, there's something that feeds both my ego (represented by my craft as a practitioner) and my vocation (represented by my being an educator).
That being said, I have been updating my portfolio in the last couple of weeks and it looks like there's still a lot I have not put in there (like the stuff I had published in research journals and books haha). For now and in the next couple of weeks, though, I will be concentrating on blogging about my students' works.
