Your Music
Chapter Fifteen: Kaarage
A few hours had gone by, and still, Yuto and Ryutaro continued to walk, side by side, in complete silence. Ever since they bumped into each other infront of Café Au Lait, the two didn't know what to say to one another, so they just wandered about the town, headed nowhere in particular as they let their feet explore the grounds. They didn't leave each other though. Somehow they knew they should be together, both of them wanting to say things to one another, explain themselves of the incident that happened to them last time they were toegther, but none of them could make their mouths open.
...What should I do? We've done nothing but walk around in circles for the past couple of hours... Ryutaro risked a glance towards his left. Seeing Yuto's poker face and no sign of his lips moving soon, the younger one's eyes retreated and looked in a different direction. He won't talk. I won't talk. ...Is he still mad? Ryutaro frowned, I admit it was my fault, I mean... I didn't really mean to act like that towards him. I know I... overreacted, and I want to say sorry, but... how things are now... I think it might be impossible.
Well, this was totally unexpected. Who would've known that right after I finally get my head cleared, I'd walk into the cause of my... confusion himself. Well, certainly not me. I can't believe that right outside the Cafe, I'd meet Ryutaro. Yuto was going through a painful mind rush. His day started with him feeling all angry, then he feels better and is in a good mood, and now, he goes right back to the start where he feels his head hurting from all the mood changes and confusion. It was the first time I raised my voice like that at him. It was the first time I... seriously got angry at him. I bet he felt shocked. I... I regret what I did, and I want to tell him that, but... it's been hours and we've only been walking together in complete silence... I think it might be impossible.
The two shook their heads almost too vigorously, their hair swooshing wildly against the cold air. Once they stopped, both of them came to a conclusion that someone at some time will have to start talking. So at last, their voices were heard.
“Hey, uhm-” the two said in unison, “Oh, you go first-” and spoke at the same time again.
Yuto scratched his head, clueless, as Ryutaro looked away, also not knowing how they'd do this.
But the younger one decided he should go first, “I... I'm sorry about last night.”
Yuto blinked, shocked, “Eh...?”
Ryutaro tried to look the older one in the eye, but his voice still shook slightly. He was clearly not use to being straight forward. “I know it was my fault. And what you said is right. Chii-kun is your bestfriend, so it wasn't wrong for you to comfort him.” Ryutaro couldn't handle it and immedietaly disconnected his eyes from Yuto's, “After what you told me, after you left the room, I realized how wrong I was... I was so stupid and... heartless. I said all those mean things to you... I'm really sorry, Yuto...” Automatically, when I saw him hugging Chii-kun, I thought he betrayed me, saying that he never wants for me to be hurt but I see him do that to the one I love... But after I get my head straight and actually think about it and not jump to conclusions, it wasn't anything like that. It had nothing to do with me, It was simply Yuto being there for his bestfriend and comforting him. He didn't mean to hurt me or anything like that at all...
Yuto was surprised. He didn't know what to think after what Ryutaro just said. He didn't know how to reply. He understands... And he's serious...
Once again, there was silence, as none of them spoke or moved an inch.
After a while, Yuto finally replied, “I...It's okay.” He walked closer to Ryutaro, then continued to speak, “I'm just glad you understand. And...” He took a deep breath, letting it out before carrying on, “I'm sorry for yelling... like that, as well. I just couldn't control my anger...”
Ryutaro smiled gently, “It's okay.” Yuto smiled back once the reply came, and they began to walk again, “So... Are we good now? You'll go back to sleep in your room again?”
Yuto chuckled at the younger one's normal, cute tone with the questions, “Uhn. Of course.”
YES! We're back to normal now... Both of them thought, and since the awkward atmosphere vanished and it was solved between them, the two began to giggle, turning it into laughs, as they walked further.
As the seconds went by, their laughter died down, and soon they were surrounded by pure quietness again. Yes, they have made up, and are in good terms now, but once they both thought about it, weren't they like this before too? They do talk to each other, but ever since Yuto knew about Ryutaro's feelings for Chinen... Their actions towards each other gradually changed.
Oh, great. So, when things aren't solved between us, we don't speak to each other, but when things are okay between us, there isn't much of a difference in the conversation part, either. The two thought the same, these sentences repeating in their minds, as they also brainstormed for something to talk about.
As Ryutaro was caught deep in his ideas, his other senses seemed to have disappeared in his mind, causing his lack of focus in his direction of walking. Ryutaro was thinking too hard, that he failed to notice he just stepped across a path, past a Wet Floor sign. Before he knew it, his one foot slid against the slippery surface of the ground, and in a split second, he was falling.
Imagining that hard impact of the ground coming in strong contact with his back, he braced himself, but instead of that painful feeling, two soft arms caught him, and broke his fall.
In a daze of confusion, Ryutaro didn't know what just happened. Wanting to know, he slowly began to open his scrunched, tight shut eyes. And that's when he saw him - Yuto's face only an inch from his.
If it weren't for Yuto's arms catching him midway of his trip, Ryutaro would've fallen flat on the ground, in front of a gathering crowd.
“Are you okay?” As Yuto spoke, his warm cloud of breath reached the younger one's nose and lips.
Ryutaro could only blink in reaction to this warm feeling, also still shocked at what happened, and the older one's face being right infront of him really did not help at all, “Oh, uhm, I think so...”
After replying, Ryutaro thought that Yuto would put him upright to stand on his own again, but instead, the two arms of the older one's were kept surrounding his body. The firm grip making it look like Yuto wasn't thinking of letting go any time soon.
This is the first time Yuto and Ryutaro got this close to each other, facing one another. Before noticing it, Ryutaro was already looking into Yuto's eyes too - Both of them just gazing into each other's eyes... It was a very rare moment that the two didn't realize the true meaning of.
Suddenly, Ryutaro's lips formed a sweet and gentle smile, the first one Yuto has seen, and this surprised him.
The older one blinked twice, as Ryutaro began to say something, gazing deeper into Yuto's eyes, “Even something as simple as tripping over... You're still here for me. To catch me when I fall...”
Yuto's eyes widened slightly, more surprised than ever. He seriously can not believe what Ryutaro has just said to him. Looking at him with those pure, innocent eyes, his smile as sweet and gentle as ever... Yuto's body acted on it's own. He quickly, but smoothly, pulled Ryutaro to stand up, only to be pulled into a tight hug by Yuto.
The older one squeezed him closer, inhaling the sweet scent of Ryutaro's hair as he closed his eyes, “Ryutaro, I...” I want to tell him. I want to tell you, Ryutaro. That I... I love you.
At first, the younger one was shocked in the sudden action of Yuto, but it was something about the feeling, being wrapped around by those two arms, cosy and warm... It definitely didn't take long for Ryutaro's shock to vanish, and instead be replaced with a feeling of... comfort.
He didn't know it, but soon, Ryutaro gently laid his head on Yuto's chest, his eye lids falling to a close... “Yuto...? Arigatou.” He breathed in, calm and peacefully, “Thank you for being here for me...”
Yuto pulled the younger one closer to him, wanting to hug his whole figure tighter. This moment meant so much to him. He has hugged Ryutaro before, but never has it felt like... this. This real.
I want to tell you how I feel... But for now, this is enough. “Ryutaro... I will always be here for you. Always...” You, understanding me. You, realizing how much I care for you. Letting me hold you like this... Even if you do love someone else, this is all I want. This is enough.
“Arigatou, Yuto...”
*
“Oh, hey! You're back!”
“Ah, you're together?”
“Ooh! Just in time for dinner!”
“Hurry guys, sit down!”
When Yuto and Ryutaro opened the front door of the house, and went inside, they instantly heard the voices of the other JUMP members, welcoming them aswell as telling them that they'll be eating soon.
Yuto obeyed, and made his way to a seat, trying reply to the question, “Oh, uhh, yeah. We kinda bumped into each other a few hours ago...” - A few hours ago? Yabu thought, and automatically looked at Kei, who seemed suspicious too. That means they've been together for quite some time... The couple giggled. - “And, so... We thought that we''d just go back together...”
“Ahh~ Okay~” Yabu said, and the others started to giggle too, giving Yuto a teasing look.
“Wh-what...?” the younger one asked, voice shaky, but he didn't believe the answer he got of “Nothing~”
“Oh, by the way, Ryu-chan. Your parents came by earlier and dropped Shin-chan off,” Daiki said.
Ah...!! I completely forgot about picking him up...!! Ryutaro imagined whacking himself on the head, as he let the older one continue.
“I think he's in the kitchen right now.”
“Ah, uhn. Thanks, Dai-chan.”
After replying, Ryutaro made his way down the hall and to the kitchen. When he entered, the first thing he saw was his brother, facing away from him and looking like he was having trouble reaching up to one of the top cupboards.
“Shintaro? What're you doing?” He asked as he walked closer.
The younger one jumped slightly and quickly turned around, “Ah! Niichan! Uhm... Trying to place this up there.” Shintaro pointed to the cupboard just above him, holding in his other hand, the medium packet from his parents.
“What? What is that, anyway?” Ryutaro asked, taking the packet from his brother.
“Oh, uhm, Dad gave it to me earlier. He said I should bring it here and have everyone taste it.”
Ryutaro examined the pack, and read the label, “Hmm~ The Choco beans that're used in the Cafe.”
Once he had a good look at it, he settled it down on the counter, remembering his purpose for coming there, “Well, never mind that for now, I'll do it later.” he said to Shintaro, “Let's go have dinner. C'mon, everyone's waiting for us.”
As the Morimoto brothers came back to the kitchen, Yamada made his way down the stairs too.
“Yama-chan! So you're awake now, ne?” Kei noticed him first, smiling as he spoke.
“Yeah...” Yamada's tone was plain. Well, to be honest, I actually couldn't go back to sleep. Somehow, these recent days, it has become his unknown habit that he's always thinking about Chinen.
“Oh, good! Now, c'mon! We're gonna eat!” As he heard Kei's voice, Yamada shook his head from his thoughts, and walked faster to his seat.
“You three have great timing,” Takaki commented, referring to Yuto, Ryutaro and Yamada.
“Yeah!” Hikaru agreed. “But... Too bad Chii doesn't...”
“I know... Where is he, anyway?” Keito wondered, “He's been out for quite a while now...”
“...And we don't even know where he is...” Yabu continued, getting worried all over again.
“Mou~! Why is it like this today??” Kei whined.
“Wait, what? What happened earlier? Where's Chii-kun?” Ryutaro was confused and demanded for an answer, so they tried to explain it to him.
Meanwhile, Yamada was just sitting still. He rolled his eyes as the obvious idea popped up in his mind again. Pretending not to care, he thought, Huh. There's no need for such a fuss. That Chibinen is probably just with that Yuma guy again anyway.
He shook his head for the second time, trying to forget about it and just start eating by himself. But his mood changed when he saw his favourite dish in the middle of the table, “Eh? Is that Kaarage? No way!” A grin immedietaly began to form on his lips, as he hurriedly took a piece from the plate.
“Yup! It's Kaarage yo!” Yabu noticed Yamada's enthusiasm, and smiled in reaction. “Actually, it was Chii who requested it. Oh! And see those three burnt pieces by the side? It was Chii who cooked them.” Yabu chuckled, remembering Chinen's frustrated face as he couldn't get it right. “It was quite funny.”
“...What? 'Chii'... That Chibinen requested this for dinner? But... Why?” Yamada didn't get it. He was so lost as to why Chinen would do this.
“He was so cute, saying that no matter what it has to be Kaarage for tonight's dinner. Ne, Yama-chan? Isn't Kaarage you're favourite? Chii didn't exactly tell me why he wanted it, but maybe he did it for... you?” Yabu concluded, leaving Yamada in a state of deeper confusion.
Wh...What...?! That Chibinen knows I love Kaarage... So, he asked Yabu to cook it for tonight? And he even tried cooking it himself? And... what... For... me?! Yamada's face started to feel warmer, not noticing his cheeks were beginning to turn red... Could he have... Maybe he did this because he, what, felt bad about last night? Is that why he did it? Yamada's pulse rose, and without realizing it, his anger for the younger one had completely disappeared and soon the corners of his mouth pointed upwards, forming a grin.
Everyone else was still talking, but Yuto noticed this state of Yamada's. He nudged the older one by the elbow, and teased, “Hey, you're blushing.”
Yamada blinked out of his daze, and erased his smile of his face as he faced Yuto. He began to act all nervous, and replied, “Wh-What're you on about? I-I'm not b-blushing..! You're seeing things Yuto. You better go see a doctor...” WHAT am I doing?! Pull yourself together, Yamada!
“Quit denying it, Yamada~ Who're you day dreaming about?” Yuto teased more, giggling as he did so.
“Would you stop it already?” Yamada retorted, “I wasn't... Well, I'm not really... It's just...! I am happy, but y'know, it's the Kaarage! The Kaarage. Not-” He nearly said “Chinen” but luckily he came to his senses just in time, “Not a person... It's just-”
“Ah! Chii! You're finally back!!” Everyone stopped talking as they heard the front door open, and Daiki announcing Chinen's arrival.
The others started to talk to him, tell him that dinner's ready and they're all waiting for him, and some even started to scold him for staying out so late and not telling them where he went, but Chinen didn't answer. He didn't even say a word.
Once Chinen entered the JUMP house, he took his shoes off, placed his jacket back on the hook, rushed passed the kitchen and up the stairs to Yamada's bedroom.
Everyone was shocked and wondered what he was up to, “Eh? What's up with Chii?”
“He didn't even answer us.”
“He was holding something right?”
“Yeah. Like a... plastic bag?”
“What? Is he not gonna eat now?”
“And we even waited for him...”
Just then, they heard the sound of a door opening, and footsteps down the stairs followed it.
Still without uttering a word, Chinen made his way to the one seat left over on the table.
“Uhh, Chii? Why-” Kei was going to question him further for his strange behaviour these past hours, but was stopped as Yabu held his arm. “Let's let them sort it out on their own” remember? The older one's eyes said, and with that, Kei understood and didn't continue.
Everyone else getting the picture, they began to talk again, making the mood more lively, and pretending that nothing weird has just happened.
Soon enough, they all started eating, and lifting the heavy atmoshpere.
Several minutes ticked by, and still, Chinen was not talking. All he did was just... eat.
On the other hand, the person next to him - Yamada, was eating and wasn't talking either, but, in his mind... He was going through a debate. Hmmmmmmmmmmm What should I do?? This kaarage tastes so nice... and without noticing it, I ate all the ones that Chibinen cooked... I wanna say thanks but... Yamada looked to his left, seeing Chinen innocently eating his food, Yamada's mouth moved on it's own, “Hey...”
Right after he heard the older one's voice, Chinen quickly turned to face him. Still in the middle of chewing a bite of Kaarage, he couldn't really talk much, “Hmm?”
Yamada hurriedly looked away, Yabe. This is really bad. I just see his face... think that when his mouth is full of food he's so cute... I just look into those cute, innocent eyes and... I already go through a Mini-heart attack. Once again, he felt his face beginning to burn up, as the red blush crept up his cheeks.
“...Yamada?” Chinen was still waiting, wondering what the older one wanted to say.
Urgh, just say it, Yamada! He took an invisible deep breath before looking back at Chinen, “Oh, uhm... Kaarage...” Yamada pointed nervously at his plate, searching for the right words, “Yabu said... You... Him... Kaarage... Cook...”
“...Huh?”
Seeing that the younger one couldn't understand a word he was saying, he got his head staright and went all out, “The kaarage! ...Thank-”
“Hey, there's someone outside.” Hikaru interrupted all of a sudden, and cut Yamada off. He got everyone's attention, standing up to have a better look. His eyes widened once he saw who it was, “It's... Yuma.”
Chinen froze. Yamada's heart sank.
