we're pretty convinced that this show jumped the shark a couple seasons ago.
this particular season has just been irritating. they tried to do too much right off the bat and it hardly moved. i think that it'd've been easier to take if we had watched it in only a couple sittings, but waiting a week between each (very slow moving) ep killed it.
my theory is that he either dies (very likely) or kills himself (less likely). kind of blaze of glory style gun battle. only true way to resolve such a character.
b thinks he'll get away, because that's what he's always done.
Jumped the shark? Well, many of us agree that last season was complete crap. They could have easily dovetailed that into the current season, spending two episodes to reveal Shane for what he'd done, put him at odds with the crew, and introduce Pazuela (sp?).
I'm wagering that he dies in a hail of bullets. Now that he's escaped his legal fate, it would be appropriate. More important to me is to see what fate cards the others pull. Shane (please die!), Ronnie off to prison maybe.
The writers have definitely taken some provocative actions over the years. Will they go all the way and leave us with a complete tragic ending? I mean, picture this: Shane escapes (sans Mara), Aceveda elected, Vic dying, Ronnie in prison. I'd remember that for years...
I enjoyed it, but it was a suitable amount of tragedy to be a downer. Oddly, Jay had called Shane's "Jonestown" solution way before it happened, and that was still a powerful shocker. I was glad he and Vic had that blowout phone argument, but in some ways I would have preferred them blazing away at each other with handguns.
Vic's ending was appropriate and fitting. Yes, you got away with it all, but you lost everything. I really enjoy Claudette putting the screws to him. She couldn't "get him", but that was a good jab to hurt him.
Overall, I'm still not sure how I feel. I'm glad they were able to finish it, to resolve some of those plots from so long ago. But I also feel hollow and wish there was more. I mean, for a 90-minute show, I think there really could have been less time with Andre 3000. Series finales shouldn't suffer under 'plot of the week', no matter if they clumsily tie certain side characters together or not.

I'll be over at Jay's watching.
