My obgyn told me something fascinating. Actually three things.
-The reason why we don't get married during the omer is that the light changes cause a lot more miscarriages. There was a study on this, done by him and another ultra well known Jewish fertility specialist. This is also why blind women have fewer ovulation problems.
-The reason why we don't have relations at day is that there are bigger risks of tube pregnancy, as ovulation happens more often in the morning.
-Spina bifida is more common among Celts, English, Breton people, and very rare among Jews, so we don't need to take folic acid.
