Kitniot and Hechsherim

Jews always travelled. Sometimes Sefardim ended up in Ashkenazi countries, and sometimes Ashkenazim ended up in Sefardi countries. Depending on how organized they were (individuals? families? communities?) they retained nothing, almost nothing... up to everything of their minhagim.
For example, many Ashkenazim in Italy, Greece and Bulgaria, over time (centuries), started eating kitniot on Pessach (some also adopted the white and blue tallit, and the "Sephardi" tefillin way) (similarly, some Sephardim became chassidim!). Few people know about that, and many now criticize it (out of these circles). Under pressure, some, especially in Israel, revert to the original, unadapted minhag of no kitniot.
My husband still eats kitniot, but he's considering switching back too, to avoid unwanted comments and so on. This year we're trying to go without rice and corn pasta and all. OY lol. I had taken the habit of kitniot since my marriage! But after all it only prevents us from one of our traditional dishes, so it's fine if we don't starve.

Out of curiosity, I have contacted the other Ashkenazi cousins of my husband to know if they still eat kitnios.

Also, I am fascinated by what I read on Imamother, that so many need kosher for Pessach make up, deodorant, and so on... it is so foreign to me. As well as women counting the omer or fasting the first born fast. Foreign also to buy everything kosher le Pessach including no risk stuff like water, fruit juice, butter, milk... from the kosher list. It's just not done in the same factories as cakes or whatever, and if it was it would be mentioned as "possible traces of whatever"...
