Bigotry ahead!
Recently, someone posted a cry for help on Imamother. She wants to give a Ladino name to her daughter, and her husband's rav basically is ignorant, and finds a fake reason to not do it (he says it shouldn't be used because there is a bad Hebrew word with a few letters in common, if that was the case we wouldn't use Gita -get- or Pessel -plain "idol" in Hebrew!-).
Of course the real reason is a mix of ignorance and racism. He wants the name translated not even to Hebrew, but to Yiddish.
The person told me she hoped I would be able to help, and I hope I did. In all cases I now see in front of me why there is a need for my Ladino article, and quick!
