Title: Fire - good...or bad?
Author: rubyjn
Disclaimer: I don't own any of Super Junior members. Just the plot(s).
Rating: PG...to PG-13?
Summary: Fire can be a good thing, or can be our worst nightmare. An unstoppable foe, yet a close ally that helps us without any conditions.
Pairings: It's better if you figure it out yourself! =) Though it isn't really hard. Really.
A/N: It's close to Christmas! So perhaps, a christmas fic? Second fiction that I've ever written, after a sudden burst of random inspiration. Enjoy! On a side note, I don't really know whether these are considered drabbles? More like short short stories.

  1. Fire’s making me cold

An almost inaudible hissing filled the atmosphere; a strangely comforting sound accompanying those orange fingers that grabbed eagerly at anything and everything they could. Orange fingers, flecked with red and blue at times, that turned into a giant, cavernous mouth that ate everything up ravenously, with a slight sadistic glee.

Hands grabbed at those carelessly strewn documents that lay around, before meticulously ripping them apart, feeding the demon before him. It was stifling hot in the house, but he did not seem to notice. Too engrossed was he, in his current task of slowly, and surely, eradicating any and all presence in this little abode-for-two.

Embers within those ashes gleamed sinisterly, once in a while; mocking, taunting. Something about ‘Living fire begets cold, impotent ash’? They seem more than potent to me. Oh wait. I AM interpreting this wrongly...right? The unspoken doubts worded out, while a relatively thin book, Things Fall Apart, landed right smack on the beaming monster. It’s warm, no scratch that; it’s blistering hot in here (are the curtains on fire?) but why do I feel so cold?

The fire mercilessly, heartlessly, abused its warmth, burning all in sight, appreciating the newest collection; a photograph revealing two smiling, cherubic faces, one taller than the other. Flames slowly licked the photo, tasting, testing; curling the blackened corners in an attempt to emulate the fate of the other innocent victims. Soon Kyuhyunnie; soon I’ll join you. Just a while more, my love.

  1. You’re warmer than the fire

Lively chatter and a comfortable atmosphere blanketed the thirteen men snugly, as they huddled around the burning charcoal in a bid to warm themselves up.

“Alright! The meat’s done!”

Cheers erupted as hands fumbled for plates, playfully pushing each other, leaving Ryeowook to amuse himself at his hyungs (and some maknaes) childish antics. The chef for that night’s barbeque (Super Junior’s usual chef, really) carefully distributed the meat equally, before assuring the others that there were still some more.

“Hyukkie! Stop taking MY meat! Ryeowookie’s cooking another batch! YAH!”

“Donghae-ah, Hyukjae-ah, be careful not to drop Ryeowook’s cooking! You know how he gets…”

“Aish; leave them be Jungsu hyung! Here, just eat your own meat!”

Jungsu gladly accepted Kangin’s chopstick-full of meat, chewing appreciatively at the youngest’s cooking skills.

Stars twinkled merrily overhead, as though enjoying themselves alongside this family of thirteen. As the last batch of barbeque got plated, all thirteen finally settled down around the mini camp fire, letting the cinders at the barbeque pit smolder and settle at its own pace.

“Here, Wookie. Thank you for the meal.”

“No problem, Jongwoon hyung!” came the light-hearted reply as Ryeowook welcomed the lightly toasted marshmallow offered by Jongwoon. A muffled “Thanks!” (and perhaps some moans of delight) escaped his mouth as Ryeowook enjoyed his sweet treat, leaving his counterpart to lightly chuckle at him.

“Wookie! Thank you for the food tonight!” was the only warning said person got before warm arms enveloped him in a brotherly hug.

“Minnie hyung! Come back! I’m cold!” Even a pout formed to emphasise his point.

Sungmin snorted in disbelief, briefly tightening his hold on Ryeowook to convey his thanks and love, before acquiescing to the other maknae’s request.

“Thank you, Ryeowook-ah,” a soft, stilted accent followed shortly after, before nudging his significant other to do the same.

“Cooking’s still as good as ever, eh Ryeowook? Though I do prefer Beijing fried rice anytime,” Heechul’s barely disguised words of acknowledgement never failed to put a smile on Ryeowook’s face.

“Sure thing, hyung.”

“IT’S MIDNIGHT! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO Y’ALL!” Donghae and Hyukjae suddenly chorused loudly and excitedly, before breaking into endless Christmas carols. Well wishes uttered from lips to ears, as Ryeowook snuggled closer to Jongwoon, leeching off his heat and eyed the others who were doing the same to their respective loved ones, leaving the cinders to glow softly in the velvet night.
