[Naoki's still about perusing the festival--though he spots Kaoru from a little ways off, blinks. A moment where he abandons the thoughts of trying the game he was considering to meander toward him, instead.]

[distracted from watching the scarecrows and the food, and glances back. Seeing Naoki he grins] Hi!

[Naoki grins and walks up alongside him.] Hey, what's up? Getting a taste of the festivities?

[uchimata_ja_nai]

[nods, turning fully, if carefully] Yeah, it's nice. Good weather, too, though that's probably not incidental, right? How've you been doing?

[scalethetower]

Probably not, but I won't complain about it. [Naoki chuckles.] Pretty good. [He looks at him then, a touch of concern visible.] And you?

[uchimata_ja_nai]

[smiles] Good to hear.

I'm okay. Kyouya-senpai's been looking out for me since I got back. [he knows he scared the other boy, but he won't presume to say as much to anyone else, lest Kyouya pay him back for it]

[scalethetower]

[Naoki nods his approval. Well, good, at least someone has.]

A friend of yours?

[uchimata_ja_nai]

[nods] Yeah, he came from home too, around the same time as I did. [...okay, he can't. Glances around quickly for potential eavesdroppers, but really, who are the scarecrows going to tell?]

I think I really... troubled him. By disappearing.

[scalethetower]

[Naoki blinks when Kaoru glances around, leans in slightly as he gets the feeling this is between them.]

Is it bothering you?

[uchimata_ja_nai]

I guess... it kinda bothers me that I bothered him. I always assumed he'd take that kind of thing in his stride, you know?

[scalethetower]

Hm--I understand. But it's kind of natural for someone to be bothered. Means they care, at least.

[uchimata_ja_nai]

[a soft chuckle] Well, yeah, but not for Kyouya-senpai. He's not the type to wear his emotions on his sleeve, y'know?

[scalethetower]

[Naoki blinks at that, rubbing his chin.] No wonder it bothers you, then. Especially if you're not used to seeing him react emotionally.

[uchimata_ja_nai]

Yeah. I mean, it's not like he was freaking out or anything but I expected his reaction to be more like, "Oh, you're back now? Jolly good." [pause] ...well maybe not jolly, but you know what I mean. I'm not sure what to make of it.

[scalethetower]

[Naoki smiles at that and brings a hand up to the back of his head.] I see. People can surprise you, sometimes.

[small smile] Yeah. I guess that's true. Not always a bad thing, huh?
