[The screen flickers on to show an odd scene from an even odder viewpoint. Vash stands in an open section of the street near the cathedral as if waiting for something; as the sun slants down from above it gleams on the surface of a mirror propped up in the shadows... and Vash is no longer alone. His doppelganger raises an eyebrow, frowning slightly.]
What is this? You’re alone? I thought you couldn’t fight without someone there to hold your hand?
[Vash simply smiles humorlessly.]
...What is your game, Switzerland? You think because you made one person believe you love her, it makes you something other than heartless--
No.
[When he speaks, the true Vash’s voice is steady and clear, the opposite of how it was when they last met.]
I realized something, when all those people came to my aid without any thought for their own safety. I’m not that good an actor, that I could trick anyone so completely into believing I’m something I’m not. I’ve never been the type to pretend, after all. Call it a character flaw, but I’m blunt to a fault. I don’t know if that’s the lesson I was supposed to learn, Temper, but there it is.
In short? I’m not afraid of you anymore. Time for you to go.
[In an instant Vash’s Carbine is aimed and fired, his dark reflection shattering like the mirror he came from. Vash turns to fully face the communicator.]
