It's not an actual button. They aren't used for anything.

Oh...

Well...
Why do humans have them then?

It has to do with the way humans are born, and I don't think you want to hear that story. Suffice it to say it's merely an indentation of skin, perfectly centred from left to right and a few inches above the genitalia.

Um. Okay. Yes, I was pretty sure of it's location, because this n-novel is very precise when it c-comes to that sort of thing...

Novel? What are you reading? I suppose I could explain more if I knew the context.

Uhh, it's some book about human romance. Uhh... [Pause.]

I am pretty sure it is m-meant for adult audiences, but I r-really like the story!

O-oh. Perhaps some people find it an erogenous zone, but it's not a primary or a secondary sexual characteristic--some people find their ears erogenous zones and the like.

[[She's blushing, and it shows in her voice. Her voice shakes a bit.]]

It's something both sexes have, though, and is generally considered a useless feature of human anatomy. It really depends on context--parents play with young children by poking theirs and it completely lacks all sexual connotations in that context, for example.

Oh, okay, yeah, that makes sense, uhhh, different things f-for different people. [A little awkward to talk about this, but hey, he'll deal..]

Hmm... so it really is uhh, up to interpretation then.

That's right. ...Do you have any other questions about it?

No, I think I completely understand the p-purpoe, or uhh, lack there of, of belly buttons. It's kind of neat that all humans h-have the same scar, it like... it makes them all connected k-kinda?

It doesn't really connect us, though. Not any more than trolls and humans having the same noses connects us.

Well, it... it makes you similar? I guess, uhh, okay, I suppose what I said might not make sense. But, it is n-nice to find similarities between y-you and other people...

I suppose. It's not something we really care about, though.

...Really?

Really. Many humans are uncaring to the point of unfeeling. Those that aren't...well, I don't know if they're lucky or unlucky.

Really? ...But, I've met a l-lot of humans since coming here and uhh, many of them seem to feel a lot. I guess... Maybe I am j-just lucky with who I have met.

I didn't know humans w-were like that...
