My mom had her colonoscopy yesterday afternoon and it went about as good as something like that can go. No tumors or polyps were found - Yay! But there were tons of those pockets on her colon (diverticulitis), especially on the left side. Based on what they could see, the doctors suspect that 2 of these pockets (right next to each other on her colon) burst at the same time, which caused the excessive bleeding. Now from what I've been told, having one pocket rupture and bleed is rare but having 2 go at the same time is almost unheard of! She's still in the hospital (partly due to her advanced age - she's 80) and now they are reintroducing her system to soft foods. So at this point they are recommending a bunch of diet changes for her to follow so they can avoid having those pockets get infected, which causes severe pain. But other than the diet changes, there doesn't seem to be anything else she needs to do. Mom should get out of the hospital either tomorrow or Saturday and my sister is there to handle everything. We are planning to visit her on Sunday.
