Busy but profitable weekend for DD - She babysat for 3 kids Friday night (they were only up for 30 minutes!) and made $7/hour and then babysat on Saturday afternoon for 2 kids and made $8/hr. To a 12-year old, this was pretty good money. DD came home feeling like she was over paid and felt bad for taking so much money from the parents because she said it was so easy. But we told her that good babysitters can be in short supply around here and parents will pay to keep a good one coming back. So DD was pretty happy with her $60 weekend!
Saturday morning we went to DD's first full swim meet of the season. The actual first meet last Wednesday night was called off after barely getting through freestyle because of the lightning/thunder storms rolling in the area. LH volunteered as a timer for this meet. I usually do the volunteering but I told him it was his turn after 5 years of getting off easy. DD had a great meet - she came in 2nd in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and the 100m IM. As of this meet, she has qualified to go to All-Stars for butterfly and IM. They only take the top 18 times for each stroke from within the entire ODSL division. We'll see if she can hold onto her spot. It can change from week to week, and she only gets two more meets to improve her times because then she'll be off to Europe for 2 weeks. But she'll be back in time for All-Stars so we're keeping our fingers crossed that she makes it.
Sunday we went to Hershey Park with DD's Girl Scout troop. I was afraid that we were going to be rained out because weather.com predicted scattered thunderstorms for the entire day but we lucked out. It didn't start to rain/storm until a little after 6pm so we managed to do everything that we wanted to do before they started to close rides. The new Boardwalk area is pretty nice (it's a mini-waterpark) but there's very little shade to be found in that area. The medication that I take for my high blood pressure makes me extra sensitive to the sun, and I burn really easily so I try to stay in the shade as much as possible. DD loved the new rollercoaster - Fahrenheit - it goes 97 feet straight up and then plummets straight down! She thought it was awesome! We were all exhausted by the end of the day, and I'm actually glad we were forced to leave by 6pm because of the weather.
