I found myself at wal-mart and I remembered your suggestion, so I went to look at the stuff you were talking about. They had... canvas pattern rubber stuff, and very slippery laminate stuff. I wibbled. Neither would do. It was then I realized that the texture I needed was like vellum paper, or certain vinyls I knew they sold in the fabric department. So I ventured to the scrapbooking and fabric sections.
ALAS. Not a thing!!! Seems that wal-mart had COMPLETELY removed both the scrapbooking AND fabric sections where I hoped to find this holy grail of substances.
However when looking in the children's hobby aisle I found what looked like vellum only... distinctly thicker and more plasticky. Smooth on one side, textured on the other. STENCIL BASES!!!!! Completely blew my mind. It was the perfect size, weight, and texture. Could not believe it.
Took it home, cut it to shape, pulled off the old film and masking taped it to the tablet, and it works like I just bought it.
Et voila, indirectly, you've fixed my problem. THANK YOU!
