spring
just got back from buddakan - stephen starr's meatpacking district restaurant designed by christian liagre. food was so-so (think asian fusion: peking duck salad with poached egg, charred beef fillet with mustard) but decor was fab. i loved the warehouse location, the luxurious 30 feet ceiling in the grand hall and the louis xiv-meets-shanghai chic.
been travelling a bit for work over the past couple of months. been trying to catch up on gym, the times, reading, relaxing and staying sane. was mighty pleased i got my first photo commission (done pro bono lah) to shoot an architect friend's project - a bedrooom he re-modelled for his company's website. it was kinda tiring - we didn't have proper stylists and lights so everything was improvised. got lots more to learn.
was back in singapore for a sneak trip en route shanghai. went to wild rocket - it was a real pleasant surprise. the menu featured basic dishes done perfectly. i loved everything we had - the codcakes, shrimp pasta, laksa pesto, grilled seabass and the amazing strawberry shortcake. good choice of argentinian wines too. definitely worth multiple visits. unlike the over-rated il lido.
in between trips, took a day trip to philadelphia. the downtown was kinda deserted with lotsa homes up for sale or rent. spooky. might be able to get a great real estate deal but cannot imagine the commute. had dinner at astral plane - loved the funky decor, food was great too - had the seared tuna. visited the refreshing kimmel center.
was in miami for a conference earlier in the month. perfect weather for a walk round the trashy south beach. wish we could do more with our tropical deco buildings - like those in the art deco district in sobe.
saw kronos at carnegie last week - with the glam diva asha bhosle (i can't believe she's 73!) holding the audience completely under her spell with her bollywood evergreen's. she still sings like a bird... incredible. wu man's pipa plucking was kinda incongruous though.
finally spring is here. work has finally begun on the w hotel that's coming up next to my building. i'll get to chill at the w bar and walk home come summer 2007. woohoo.
