closing thoughts

gehry's evocative, sculptural forms have worked in most contexts: guggenheim (bilbao), dg bank (berlin), issey miyake flagship (new york city). strangely enough, the sculpted steel panels of his experience music project look strangely out of place and context in downtown seattle, next to the space needle and a drive-in macdonalds across the street. seattle is certainly not the most architecturally interesting city but one would have hoped this multi-million paul allen commission in a city of ideas and entrepreneurs would have worked better. this strange soulless creature is a reminder of how form isn't everything.

in contrast, it's interesting how brokeback continues to creep into consciousness since i last watched it 2 weeks ago. it's love is spiritually simple (even old fashioned), but vast, humbling, and haunting. i've never been prone to resolutions nor to-do lists. so, here's to new ideas, experiences and spiritual simplicity in the new year.
