House ended up going back to his room, after meeting that blonde woman down in the lobby. He'd had a crap enough day as it was; the way the morning had turned out with Cuddy, meeting Wilson in the bar, getting punched in the face by John. Yeah, he wasn't interested in his day getting any more crap than it already was, and hanging around downstairs ( Read more... )

Cuddy was lying on her bed watching some fluffy romantic comedy on the tv. That was to say, the movie was on and her eyes were aimed in the direction of the screen, but she wasn't really paying attention. Every time she stopped moving for more than five minutes, her mind went right back to the previous night. And the morning. And...everything ( ... )

What he planned to say to her, House had no idea and the moment the door opened House felt tongue tied. Cuddy didn't seem to take much notice of him with the way she merely walked off to fetch his pill, and House was both relieved about that and agitated at the same time. Was she ignoring what had happened between them? House instantly felt paranoid that Cuddy was ignoring and therefore didn't care about what happened and it bothered him that he cared about that. This was getting ridiculous: at every turn there was a new confusing thought that contradicted the last ( ... )

Cuddy's fingers lingered a moment longer on House's jaw. Being this close to him, touching him, brought on a rush of images, remembered sights, sounds, smells, none of which had lost their intensity in the intervening hours. She let her hand drop and took a step back, trying to focus on what House was saying, not the memory of his face when he came ( ... )

Was it completely stupid of him to feel unexpected disappointment at Cuddy taking her hand away from his face? House certainly thought so. What the hell was wrong with him? That Cuddy had lingered with her touch didn't go unnoticed, either, and House wondered what the hell that was about, too ( ... )

Cuddy gave a resigned shrug when House dismissed the whole question of Wilson's drinking. She wasn't surprised. Pointing out that House had done something nice rarely got a positive reaction from him. If anything, it was likely to make him back off, so she wasn't going to push the point. She figured it was better to ignore it in the hope that House was more likely to keep looking after Wilson if he thought no one noticed that he was doing it.

"Why? Did you provoke him?" Cuddy asked when House admitted that John was the one who'd hit him. And yes, she knew it was entirely possible if not likely that House had done something to provoke the other man. On the other hand, she didn't know John well enough to know how likely it was he would provoke House.

Cuddy rubbed her forehead fretfully as House moved into the room. "You know what--I probably don't want to know. Just...be careful. John looks like he could take you in a fair fight. And I'm afraid to think of what he could do to you in an unfair fight ( ... )

He ignored Cuddy's advice about John. In fact, he didn't want to think about John at all in Cuddy's presence, especially if she was going to start calling the guy things like 'good looking'. That just sparked unexplained jealousy in him and he hated how jealousy felt; how hot and prickly it made him feel, and how unshakable that feeling was.

Of course Cuddy would close the door -- that made sense, seeing he'd ventured into her room, but now he felt in a sense trapped. He didn't know what to do about this sex thing, didn't know what Cuddy wanted to do, and it was obvious they needed to do something about it because this awkwardness wasn't lingering between them for no reason. As long as he needed his pills, he was going to need Cuddy, which meant he was going to have to keep facing her. But more to the point, there was this niggling want in him to want Cuddy than for more than just his pill supplier. Because, hell, how they'd been with each other the whole time they had sex, and afterwards -- the first time, specifically -- had just ( ... )

"That's just it--I don't know what I want to say," Cuddy said with a groan. She moved over to the bed and dropped down to sit on the edge. She rested her hands on her knees and looked back up at House.

"I liked what we had last night, and not just because of the sex...although that was pretty damn good. I liked it because it was you." And oh, boy, didn't that complicate the hell out of things. She wanted more of the sex, no doubt about it, but it wasn't just sex and they'd probably been idiots to think it could be. After all the years they'd known each other, after all they'd been through, how could anything they did be uncomplicated ( ... )

House turned on the spot to face Cuddy as she sat on the edge of the bed, and he really didn't know what to think or how to react to her saying she liked the sex because it was with him. What did that even mean? They always fought, he always challenged her against everything she said, she got infuriatingly frustrated with him on a regular basis -- why on earth would she like the sex because it was with him? Because he was familiar or because, for some obscene reason, she liked him, or...? He'd taunted Cuddy a lot in the past about how she wanted his ass, but he never seriously meant that. He found it hard to reason why anyone would like him ( ... )

Hearing House say things like "what was I on" and "should've stuck with the stripper" was like being slapped. Cuddy's jaw clenched as she fought to keep from reacting. Even though House wasn't looking at her, she didn't want to take the chance that he'd see how much those careless words hurt. She hadn't expected him to express any tender or romantic sentiments--she would've examined him for a head injury if he had--but being categorized as just another problem he didn't want to deal with was hurtful...to say the least.

Because he was right. He should've stuck with his stripper. And she should've kept whatever feelings were simmering in her subconscious right where they were--deeply buried. There'd been no danger in going on as they'd always been and even if they'd been missing something by doing that...well, if you never had it, then you didn't feel any loss.

Cuddy didn't really hear most of the rest of what House said. She was too caught up in his obvious distaste for the fact that she'd liked being with him because it was him. ( ... )

House turned sharply to look at her, a sudden annoyed expression on his face. Had she completely not listened to a word he'd said? Well... maybe he hadn't exactly delivered his confused thoughts with much clarity, but he thought he was making it obvious what he was saying: that he couldn't stop thinking about what they'd done together. That, if he was absolutely honest with himself, he couldn't stop thinking about CuddyHe sighed irritably, frustrated that he had to somehow elaborate on what he was saying to make it make sense to her. He'd deliberately chosen to try and tell her what he was thinking through talking in metaphors so it didn't feel so personal. He made a few aborted attempts to try and answer her question without being direct, then gave an exasperated toss of his head ( ... )

"I wasn't upset," he snapped back at her, feeling defensiveness spiking in him. He turned his attention from Cuddy to the door and tried to calculate quickly how many steps it would take him to make it speedily to the door and out of her room. "Of course it scared me," he continued in favour of actually following through with seeking an exit. "Scared the shit out of you, too."

He resumed pacing, tossing her question about in his mind: so everything was fine... wasn't it? It was supposed to be fine. It was just supposed to be sex, like he'd argued over and over with himself in his mind. So, why the confused feelings? Why this strange sense of attachment, or whatever the hell it was? Maybe he really was just going mad and this was how it was manifesting; the Hotel fucking with his mind. Except he really, truly did like what he and Cuddy had shared. And he remembered at the time hoping it would happen again. And again. And hopefully again.

"It wasn't just an accident," he argued once he was in the centre of the room again. He turned ( ... )

Cuddy bristled under House's accusatory glare. She got the feeling he wanted to blame her for everything that had happened. She had made the first move, or dared him to make the first move really. But she hadn't forced him to do anything. She sure as hell hadn't prevented him from using a condom. And she knew he knew that. He was simply looking for some way to vent his fears and she was the obvious target ( ... )

The accusatory look on his face quickly turned into wariness as Cuddy rose from the bed and moved in towards him. He didn't know whether to feel relieved that Cuddy said she'd be welcome into her bed, or if that made him feel or the more confused, but as Cuddy neared him he couldn't help watching her suspiciously. He wasn't sure what she planned to do, if she was going to kiss him, or slap him, or shove him out of her room, or what she had in mind ( ... )

House reluctantly let the kiss end when Cuddy pulled back and pressed her hand to his chest. Whatever it was Cuddy wanted to say, House wasn't sure he wanted to hear it. They'd done all their talking as far as he was concerned, and it had achieved nothing -- really, kissing Cuddy like this had only landed them both back at square one.

He just nodded to her assertion that this wasn't a relationship. Deep down, he wasn't sure he believed that because this wouldn't be so damn confusing if it was just sex.. or whatever this was. It just seemed much easier to give into the physical over bothering to figure out the reason behind it all. This wasn't dealing with the issue at all and House knew that. He didn't want to deal with it, because so long as Cuddy wanted him as much as he wanted Cuddy, then what need was there to look beyond that? Looking beyond the sex meant that they'd be delving into areas pertaining to relationships, and ( ... )
