So I've been watching the Harry Potter movies on the ABC Family channel. I've actually only seen a few of them twice, and both were a very long time ago. (Couldn't get over there being characters cut from the movies that were in the books.) So to be able to re-watch the movies is a big benefit as I can appreciate them more. (Example: I hated the third movie when I first saw it.) As a kid I really enjoyed Chris Columbus' take on Harry Potter. Now I just see them as kind of cheesy, and very American. (Also, what's with Chris Columbus and Christmas?)
Now that I've seen the third movie twice in a few days, I can appreciate the complexity better. Ever since I've taken a few movie making classes I can't seem to just enjoy movies, especially if I dislike the way it's shot. (Movies are now basically moving paintings and I've been viewing them as I do paintings.) I can really see where Alfonso Cuarón was going with it, and I really enjoyed his shooting set ups. Where he got me: When Fudge is stepping out of his sleigh in Hogsmeade, and takes careful steps to avoid the horse mess (quite telling of his character), but then Madam Rosemertta confronts him and he takes a step backward into the mess. Genius, simply for the fact that no one really pays attention to his little details like that. Needless to say that I really do enjoy (almost love) the third movie.
However, the fourth movie... Still not so much. I may be biased as the fourth book is possibly my favorite of the books, so I was sure to be disappointed by the fourth movie. As amusing as having Sparklespire and Dr. Who in a Harry Potter movie is it's hard for me to get over the blatant show off-y style of story telling (see break dancing Durmstrung wizards), and it's overly flamboyant characters. Granted, Mad Eye Moody is a character, he's just not THAT kind of character. It's still hard for me to get into it. (Sorry Mike Newell, thumbs down from me.)
Now David Yates does have a stylistic vision to his Harry Potter movie(s), but as I've only seen the fifth movie maybe twice and usually not the whole thing at once... I won't go into a full rant/fan nick picking on them. The only thing I will say is that the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort is neat, but unsatisfactory in my opinion. (Love Bellatrix though.)
Okay, that's it for my fandom. I'm not really sure when I'll see the up coming Harry potter flick. I don't remember much from that book so I may actually enjoy it.
In other news: I've started a legacy... In the sims 3. Meh.
