It has been a yearly tradition with Kala and I to try to hit the McDonalds and fail, then go to the theater in Ventura and watch The Lord of the Rings very late in Christmas Eve. This time, because of delays, it was a bit later than normal - in fact, the last showing...10:15 for a 3 1/2 hour movie a good 45-minute drive away...
You don't need me to tell you that the movie was good. I think my problem was that it almost was too much at times - some of the battle scenes were so much, so over the top that I almost felt like giggling, and it kind of wrecked things. That and there was the part with the spider and the cocooning and me thinking to myself, mmm, slimy bondage.
That and the hot corned beef slash was tossed liberally through the movie - particularly Sam and Frodo of course, although to a lesser extent with certain other characters as well, of course...yes, in fact, my kinkiness does get in the way far too often, even though I swear I have never written fanfic and I never will, damnit.
There was a complaint about too many endings with it - there was one too many for me, I didn't need the very last one, except that I guess it was supposed to make me feel better. Nah, no need, really. Rest of it was fine.
Next series up to bat: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (yes, again, if you've seen the BBC bit first). Also some rumors of the Hobbit getting done, which might work or not, doesn't matter to me, although frankly I liked the Hobbit as a rousing tale unlike the slog that is LotR.
