[magi] Adventures in asexuality

In case anyone in the world didn't know, I'm asexual. This means that I don't experience sexual attraction, and I'm largely confused by the weight and significance placed on it by those who do. This also means that I'm kinda borked when trying to write someone for whom sex is a major part of how they interact with the world. (I'm lookin' at you ( Read more... )

Hmm. Perhaps you might want to try comparing it to other forms of heightened-tension-followed-by-release stimulation? In my experience, it's a comparable concept to a number of other things; if you seek out those kinds of experiences and know what their effect is on you emotionally (like the anticipation of biting into a piece of chocolate followed by the satisfaction of its taste flooding you, or of opening a present, or something similar....), can describe that in detail, maybe that will help you to get into the mindset of how it feels for the characters? Just random advice.... (Says the person who once wrote a 7000-word intended-lemon that didn't actually have the characters do more than kiss and briefly touch, despite being technically hugely kinky. I wanted to play with the idea of what magic students might do in bed; it ended up being a character exploration.)

[magi] Actually, amusingly enough, the anticipation-tension-release thing for me comes through most in the realm of writing/sharing fiction (And watching responses roll in). So, anyone who's ever provided feedback for me has, in a sense, had sex-analogue with me. (Though I don't usually phrase things like that, as I'm quite certain there are people who would find that really creepy.)

See, I was actually going to suggest something fictiony - the process of writing being a frustrating yet also strangely gratifying one; the release at the end when it's done and appreciated....
