Oh My Gawd.
PLEASE see this:
http://www.mikedaisey.com/ check the youtube action there thats about Mike Daisy's performance of Invincible Summer from April 20th 2007
"Last night's performance of INVINCIBLE SUMMER was disrupted when eighty seven members of a Christian group walked out of the show en masse, and chose to physically attack my work by pouring water on and destroying the original of the show outline."
I stole the link from Daniel MacIvor's blog which I find I'm addicted to now :) I like that I'm addicted to it.
Ho my gawd! What were these people thinking?!?! Mike Daisy said the word fuck. Thats it. Then like 80 people took off after his schtick.
This is a horrendous moment that I think all performers dread. "They hate me. The audience hates me - literally." But My god! This is redick! I don't even know what to say I'm just so mad and sad that this happened! I guess I always thught that the theatre - especially in this day and age (whateverthat saying means anyway) that the thearte is an ANYTHING goes type space. Its a black box shaped to dreams - you don't put limits on dreams - so why on theatre? And not trying to further how redick this was but of all things to get upset about - I'm sorry but the word fuck is pretty much set in our vocab. Its not something we pull out as a big gun (well maybe when we are 14 and trying to defy parents) but of all words! I think its mighty interesting to see that lately there are a bunch of horrific WORD moments. I just say George Carlin have a monologue about the word Cunt. And we all know what happened to Isaiah Washington from Greys Anatomy a few months ago. And I saw on Colbert (ah colbert <3 ) that someone is trying to forbid (really and honestly forbid) the use of the N word. See? See what I did there - I can't even type it! But fuck? C'mon people! There are far worse than that. But again, its one person's set of limits against another and its all quite redick. How does one know what is acceptable? I can understand in general public spaces yes you watch your tongue for children and for moments of respect and decorum - but the f word in the theatre? Have these people SEEN half of the greatest plays known to man? They all have cursing in them?! *gah.
What the fuck is the world coming to.
