Title: Leaving
Author: Viki (no_sweeter_song)
Format & Word Count: Experimental fic, 553
Rating: PG
Warnings: Not much
Prompt: 12-the suitcase picture
Summary: Tonks catches Remus packing and confronts him on why.
Author’s Notes: Extremely experimental, I don't expect miracles. Strictly dialogue, something I've wanted to try but haven't yet.

"What are you doing?"

"What's it look like?"

"It looks like you're packing."

"Very perceptive little thing, aren't you?"

"But...why?"

"One tends to pack when they're moving."

"Moving?"

"Out."

"Out?"

"I do believe there's an echo in here."

"No need to be sarcastic, Remus, I'm just...confused. What do you mean, moving?"

"I'm leaving."

"Care to elaborate?"

"No. Not really."

"Okay, let's pretend you do."

"Honestly, Tonks, can't you see this isn't working?"

"So you're not just leaving, you're breaking up with me? Or just...moving out? Remus? Remus, a straight answer isn't that much to ask for."

"Yes."

"Yes, you're breaking up with me?"

"Yes."

"Could you be any more selfish?"

"Possibly."

"Remus! Please, at least... I deserve an explanation, at least."

"Greyback."

"And...what about him?"

"I've got to go after him. Work as a spy. Like Snape."

"You'll never be anything like Snape. You know that."

"Maybe."

"So what's that got to do with anything? You move out of your girlfriend's house and break up with her because of an Order assignment? Since when?"

"Since... Since it could put us both in danger. It's time to end this, don't you think?"

"No, not really. Try again."

"I'm too old for you, Tonks."

"Didn't seem to bother you till just now."

"Besides, it's pathetic of me to be living off of my girlfriend."

"I'm too rich for you all of a sudden?"

"That's not what I said."

"It's what you meant."

"I just meant that, as an adult man, I ought to be able to support myself. Not to mention if I'm ever to have a family, it'd be nice to support them, too."

"This is the nineties, Remus, women are more than capable of taking care of the household."

"Not my point."

"Make it your point, then, Remus, because all you're doing is giving me stupid excuses and not telling me why you're really leaving."

"For the love of Merlin, Nymphadora, I'd think it was obvious!"

"Don't call me that, you sound like my father."

"Exactly! I could be your father, you see that? I'm an old man, you're just starting your life. Don't roll your eyes at me, you know it's true."

"If you were my father you'd have had me when you were thirteen. I assure you, Remus, my father was plenty older."

"You're skipping the point."

"Because you don't have one!"

"I do, you're just being stubborn."

"I'm the stubborn one? What about you, Mr. Can't Be With the Woman I Love Because I'm Too Big A Prat To Admit I Need Anyone?"

"Nymphadora--"

"I told you not to call me that! Remus, please, just put the suitcase down and we can talk this out. You don't need to go. I'll talk to Dumbledore, I'm sure we can--"

"I have to go. I'll be late."

"So you're just walking out on me? On us?"

"...yes."

"Damn you. I hate you right now, you know that?"

"I was hoping you'd say that."
